Life is full of challenges. As a psychotherapist and parent coach for the past fifteen years, I have worked with families and young adults to help them develop healthy communication skills, manage severe emotional issues, reduce conflicts, increase awareness, and develop coping skills to manage behaviors. Nothing is more important to parents than the well-being of their children. As adults, we have ideas about being the "perfect parent" and then life happens. My greatest strengths are my ability to see connections and patterns, offer insights and provide concrete steps that will lead to lasting, positive changes. When working with families, a priority is to strengthen one’s ability to engage in new patterns within the family system which will ultimately lead to healthier dynamics.
I love my work and I am passionate about helping families regain their balance so they can move forward together. I truly believe that when parents feel empowered they can be great guides for raising healthy and happy families. Nothing is more rewarding than helping young adults find their unique place in the world, along with helping parents discover their unique place in navigating their role as parents with young adults.
My professional experience includes working at a residential transitional program for young adults, treating substance abuse, oppositional defiance, emotional issues as well as common adolescent concerns including peers, school, impulse control, parents and relationships. Beyond providing therapeutic sessions with parents and the young adults, I served as a clinical supervisor for graduate students.
Earlier in my career I worked in the Boulder Valley School District as a Mental Health Counselor and Assistant Principal at a charter high school for “at risk youth”. I am a specialist in navigating complicated challenges and I've worked within the courts and social service systems and a variety of drug treatment programs. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Certified Addiction Counselor, Mediation Skills Facilitator, Restorative Justice Facilitator and Approved Clinical Supervisor.
As the parent of two children, I have witnessed first-hand the reality of parenting and the plethora of issues that go along with the roller coaster life of young adults.
It takes courage to change the family dynamics. I look forward to working with you and for you as you embrace that courage. I seek to assist each client in a unique way that suits his/her personal goals and personality and will work with you in a straightforward manner, so that sessions are limited to what is necessary. Please feel free to contact me to discuss your specific concerns.
